Compilation and Development of Formula Books
Books of medical formulas in ancient times are different from the modern formula books. The latter focuses on the principles of combination of medicinals in formulas and their clinical application. However, the former mostly records formulas. Only some cover the principles, methods, formulas and medicinals taken as a whole. In the Song Dynasty （960-1279 A.D.）, many such formula books were published. Some were compiled by government institutions and others by individual scholars.
